What is the first consultation like?
During your initial consultation, your attorney will ask you a series of questions to better understand what has you considering filing for bankruptcy. This consultation will be spent understanding whether bankruptcy is right for you and what it can do for your situation. If your attorney determines you are a candidate for filing, you will then be given detailed instructions for the process itself. Don’t be nervous! The consultation is a great learning session!
Do I need to bring anything with me to the initial consultation?
While we do not require you to bring anything in to this first consultation, it is helpful to know a good estimate of all income sources for your household, and roughly the types and overall amount of your debts, as this information helps determine your qualification.
What is the bankruptcy process like?
Attend your initial consultation with your attorney
Return for your document review appointment with all required documentation approximately 1 week later
Wait for our firm to process your file (typically two weeks)
Attend the signing appointment where you will sign all of your documents so that we may file your case
Attend a very brief hearing with your attorney approximately 30 days after your case is filed
Wait for your discharge
**the above steps assume a typical Ch. 7 bankruptcy. All cases vary.
